SDM promises to investigate director’s sexual harassment allegations that have laid bear the district municipality.
Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) has confirmed that one of its employees, a manager within Corporate Services Department, has lodged a grievance against the Director of Corporate Services on allegations of sexual harassment.
The district municipality has further confirmed the manager in question has obtained a protection order, which is currently subjudicae, against the director.
SDM said the grievance on allegations of sexual harassment was raised in line with its grievance procedure and was currently receiving utmost attention from the Municipal Manager, Noroh Maseko, in line with the SDM sexual harassment policy, as instructed by the Executive Mayor, Stan Ramaila.
“The Municipal Manager, in conclusion of her investigations, will take necessary action equivalent to the matter,” read the statement issued by Willy Mosoma, SDM spokesperson.
The statement further read that in dealing with the case the municipality was guided by CCMA Code of Good Practice on Sexual harassment which amongst other states that employers and employees must ensure that grievances about sexual harassment and investigations were handled in a manner that ensured that the identities of persons involved were kept confidential.
The district municipality said it viewed any allegations of sexual harassment in a serious light. It said it was for that reason that it has developed and adopted Sexual Harassment Policy in 2013 to combat and eliminate sexual harassment in all its manifestations.
SDM said it recommitted itself to the protection of officials, councilors and clients in particular, female employees against any form of sexual harassment at the work place. It further reassured the public, media and all concerned parties that sexual harassment did not have a place in its institution and that appropriate sanctions would be taken in line with the outcome of the investigation.
