Klaas Mathibe, a community leader, speaks of lack of access to running water that continues to hit hard on Sephaku village residents.
SEPHAKU – Residents of Sephaku village outside Groblersdal are livid over lack of running water in the area and want Sekhukhune District Municipality to speedily attend to the matter.
Residents there said they have been faced with the problem for many years and attempts to get authorities to solve the problem bore no fruits.
The residents further said the problem affected them badly, as elderly people, who cannot push wheelbarrows to go fetch water from a distance only borehole in the area, are forced to pay the youth with their grants to fetch water for them.
Klaas Mathibe, a community leader, said they recently approached Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality over the problem but the local municipality is stalling in addressing the matter.
“Our people cannot go on like. We are suffering in this area with the problem of lack of running water. Our elderly are forced to use their grants to get people to fetch them water from the only one functioning borehole. We want the authorities to attend to the problem at speed as we cannot go on like this,” said Mathibe.
Attempts to get comment from Sekhukhune District Municipality were not successful at the time of going to press.
