JANE FURSE – In a move to strengthen relations with local media, Sekhukhune District Municipality held a media briefing session in at Laduma OAT Lodge at Jane Furse on Friday.
The initiative was aimed at identifying challenges the media in the district is faced with and seeking possible solutions to ensure effective communications.
Speaking to the media, SDM Executive Mayor, Stanely Ramaila, said the media played a pivotal role in social cohesion among communities.
The executive mayor urged media personnel within the district to effectively communicate to attain the much needed social cohesion.
“It is important for the media to report factually and ensure effective communication, which is of utmost importance to attain the needed social cohesion in our communities. We encourage the media within the district to report on issues affecting our communities in a responsible manner,” advised Ramaila.
Ramaila further said the district municipality would ensure maximized support for the local media to be able to operate effectively.
“We understand that local media is faced with challenges financially since the media bulk buying support of the district municipality has been stopped. We are looking at ways to ensure that the support for our local media is brought back in order for them to do their work without hindrances, said Ramaila.
