Three suspects arrested following a farm attack at Roosenekal outside Groblersdal.
GROBLERSDAL – Limpopo SAPS said the rural safety plan continued to yield positive results following the arrest of three suspects in a farm attack at Roosenekal in the Groblersdal policing cluster.
According to police, six armed suspects wearing balaclavas, attacked a farmer at his house in the area outside Groblersdal
L.t Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, said the suspects began shooting randomly before they fled on foot. They took nothing and there were no injuries.
Ngoepe said police reacted swiftly with backup from the SAPS Air Wing division and farmers in the area and that resulted in the arrest of the three suspects.
Ngoepe further informed that one firearm with four rounds of ammunition was recovered during the arrest.
Police said the arrested suspects, aged 24, 27 and 32 years-old were from Praktiseer, Ga-Malekana and Riba Cross villages in the Burgersfort area and would appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates Court soon.
Ngoepe added that the suspects would face charges of farm attack, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He said the profiling of the suspects and the origin of the recovered firearm was still being determined through ongoing investigations.
General Nneke Ledwaba, Limpopo Police Provincial Commissioner, has commended the team of police officers, including the Air Wing division and farmers who were involved in the matter for reacting swiftly and arresting the suspects within a short space of time.
Ledwaba said they hoped that the achievement would lead them to possible stability in farming communities in that area.
The Provincial Commissioner added that the arrest of the suspects ought to send a clear message to all criminals who were still targeting farming communities and that their crime fighting machineries were up and running.
The General concluded that they were going to deal with them mercilessly and without compromise.
