BURGERSFORT – In their quest to accelerate services, the Fetakgomo Greater Tubatse Municipality (FGTM) officially opened the town’s new flea market complex and a new recreational park in town. The two facilities were officially handed for public use last Thursday, November 29.
Speaking during the handing over, FGTM mayor Johannes Phokane said the flea markets will assist members of the community in having a “one stop shop” rather than having to travel a great distance purchasing goods while also allowing the municipality to regulate informal traders.
“This is done to provide infrastructure for the informal traders, and to empower communities,” the mayor revealed.
After handing over the markets, Phokane flanked by the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM)’s
SDM Mayor Stan Ramaila and FGTM mayor Johannes Phokane after the official opening of Tubatse recreational park
executive mayor Stan Ramaila, went on to open a new recreational park.
It is situated behind Magaba Filling station and was built in partnership with the Limpopo Department of Environmental Affairs. It is named Tubatse Recreational Park.
Officially unveiling the park , Ramaila said it was for the people of Tubatse to enjoy. “The challenge is to make sure that you maintain the park and make sure it is not vandalised,” he said.
The park boasts picnic areas, a mini soccer field, ablution facilities, beautiful trees, vintage playground equipment, swings, seesaws and many more facilities.
Pitso Mojapelo from the department of environmental affairs said, “Our parks and nature reserves are also offering events to keep the young ones busy while they are getting fresh air. They are sure to be educated, fascinated and kept engaged.”
Informal traders interested in utilising the flea markets were encouraged to visit the municipality to enquire.
