The remains of OK Furniture on Mark Street in Groblersdal after it was gutted by fire on Thursday evening.
GROBLERSDAL – Heavy smoke filled the air at Groblersdal on Thursday 30 November 2017 evening sending shoppers and business into total chaos when OK Furniture on Mark Street caught fire.
According to police the cause of the fire is not yet known but forensic results will tell.
Constable Julia Mampa, Groblersdal Police Spokesperson, said the fire started at about 18:00 that evening.
The fire started when the workers were busy moving stock to the recently opened Groblersdal Mall, where the business was set for relocation.
“It is not yet clear what caused the fire. We are awaiting the forensic results that will tell what the cause was. The estimated damage is also not known at this stage. Furniture and the building were gutted in the fire,” said Mampa.
A woman, who did not want her name published in the paper, said she was scared when she saw heavy smoke and a blaze coming from the area.
“I was on my way from the shops and as I went passed near there, it was all chaotic. I could tell one of the buildings there was on fire, it was so huge,” she said.
The paper has reliably learned that one of the firefighters was injured as they tried to extinguish the blaze.
